Pushing up the glasses holder with light pressure as I normally would didn't come close to closing it. The holder remained in the mirror position.

To remove it, just pull it down hard, or use some sort of wedge on each side to pop it off, and disconnect the cables. My cable was pretty stuck so it took quite a bit of wiggling to disconnect.
